The Memorial Coliseum
The Coliseum was built in dedication of the 400 men and women who gave their lives in World War II and ultimately to the Gold Star Mothers. The architecture reflects a mid-century style and was the product of local architect, Richard Colley. The Coliseum can hold 3,000 people at a time and was just what the city needed at the time. The Coliseum was awarded the annual jury prize by Progressive Architecture for being “the most noteworthy submission among buildings for public use.” The building was featured in an article in the February 1953 issue of Progressive Architecture.
